Last week I made homemade baby food for Evan. I was filled with excitement and anticipation to give my baby his first taste of butternut squash. Evan took formula and rice cereal with no problems and I thought that the squash would be the same. But, for the first time he showed a strong opinion about what I was feeding him. He was opening wide for each bite of cereal and enjoying his breakfast but when I gave him a spoon full of the homemade squash he stopped, looked at me with a "hey, what's this?" face and then spit it out! I couldn't believe it! I was thinking, "this squash is good, homemade by your mommy, why don't you like it?" So tried again and got the same response and then it was even hard to go back to giving him his cereal. I think he was worried it was squash. So for each meal for the next 2 days I tried to give him some squash and finally on the 3rd day when Adam fed him the squash he ate it and seemed to enjoy it. Today I gave him homemade carrots and he actually didn't hesitate too long after the first taste to open wide for the next. I guess it might just take a little getting used to all the new flavors! I hope that he continues to be a good eater and likes his veggies! Next week I plan to introduce some green vegetables. I think it will be interesting to see how that goes!
